Birthday Cake

One of my work colleague’s wife always gets assigned to make Axel’s birthday cake every year. She is very creative and talented and bakes the most delicious cake with marshmallow icing.

Carrot Cake

So I got a Kitchen Aid for my birthday this year and a whole lot of other baking tools fit for real masterchef from friends. Great to see the very high expectations my friends have set on  my very amateurish baking skills….Decided to make this carrot cake as my first attempt….let’s say it looks lot better than what it taste!

Macaroni Cheese

I made this easy and delicious Macaroni Cheese and Cauliflower dish from my Jamie’s 30 Minute Meals book a few weekends ago. As you can see I managed to obtain my BIG stamp of approval from my little food critic!

Here is how to make it!

Design Museum Flyer

Flyer design to promote the new cafe “Grazing” at  Design Museum. I love the way you can cut along the dotted line to use the free hot drink voucher. Very clever use of bold and striking colors alongside neat and clean illustration and typography – something you won’t normally associate with the food industry!

Chiswick Restaurant

If you have been watching Masterchef Australia then celebrity chef Matt Moran should be familiar to you. I love the brand around his latest collaborated Chiswick Restaurant. The whole idea is about neighborhood kitchen garden where most of the fresh produce are grown in the backyard. I love the simple and friendly environment with large communal tables perfect for sharing stories and celebrating good moments!

Old Biscuit Mill

I love the market at the Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock – definitely a must if you are in Cape Town. It was a real treat to spend Christmas Eve morning there last year – the whole set up from atmosphere, people, food and trinkets are all so inspiring!

Craft Trattoria

My most inspiring places to sit, relax and eat in Durban has got to be any of the talented Neil Roarke’s restaurants. I love the brand around Craft – the attention to detail, what it stands for and the quirky elements that are scattered around the place.

Clarke’s Dining Room

I would love to visit Clarke’s bar and dining room the next time I go to Cape Town – they are situated in Bree Street. I love the industrial and minimal look mixed with indoor plants. The interior was designed by industrial designer Liam Mooney who I am a big fan of. All look like this could be my happy place – and the food looks delicious!

Jamie’s Italian

So my favourite chef Jamie Oliver turned 37 years old last Sunday. He is someone I admire and respect a lot due to his passion, dedication, hard work and his strive for perfectionism in no matter what he does. I had the opportunity to be invited to one of his restaurant Jamie’s Italian while I was in London in Jan and was amazed on how simple, cosy and homely the place felt like. I love the main lighting made of clear recycled glass bottles, the antique “crapper” toilets, white rectangular tiles and raw wood. The food was excellent and all served in terracotta dinnerware!
